Introduction to Filmmaking
Students will work together to create their own movie, which will be showcased at the end of the academy. This class is hands-on with video equipment, and students will receive step-by-step instructions on camera operation, acting, time management, film development, and screenwriting.

Sewing

Ages: 10-18
Instructor: Emma Martin
Beginners Sewing Class
Students will learn basic sewing skills while becoming familiar with the machine. Students will learn how to read a pattern and make the following projects pillows, aprons, skirts, and crossbody bags while attending the class.

Choral Music

Ages: 7-18
Instructor: Briona Jackson
Students will learn two beginner to intermediate-level songs in this class while improving their actual musical skills. They’ll practice matching pitch with playful warm-ups, explore rhythm through games of clapping and tapping, and discover how to use proper posture and breath control to make singing seem effortless. Additionally, students will learn how to read basic music notation on the staff, try simple harmonies, and utilize solfege to understand songs.

Cake Decorating

Ages: 12-18
Instructor: Norma McDowell
Students will learn how to level a pre-baked cake, apply a crumb coat for a smooth finish and learn how to make butter cream frosting.  They will learn how to fill and use a piping bag and various techniques such as rosettes, stars, basket weave, and edge designs on cakes. Students will know how to decorate cakes that will express their creativity and personalize cakes for special occasions.

Art

Ages: 4-11
Instructor: Amaia Johnson
Introduction to Painting
Artist will learn about the painting fundamentals, so that they can create amazing works of art. Artist will practice different ways they can use paint. For example: textures, stamping, patterns, and more. This is a chance to explore with paint and seeing what one can do with the medium. Artist will be instructed on the principles of design and elements of art. This is so that students will start working on their final pieces to show to friends and family.

LIFERS Basketball Program

Ages: 6-18
Instructor: Jeffery D. Johnson
A co-ed basketball program designed to develop the complete athlete — physically, mentally, and spiritually   through structured training, mentorship, and intentional character development. Each session includes 3 core components:
  • Devotional & Character Development
  • Skills Development Training
  • Fitness & Performance Training
*This class is powered by the Goel Project and costs $50 to participate.
